Help get Riptide to the World Finals!!
Our team of six, very talented fifth graders from Kitty Hawk Elementary are raising money to compete next month in the World Finals Odyssey of the Mind in Iowa.
After advancing from the regional tournament in February, the team placed FIRST at the STATE competition on March 24. This qualifies them to compete in the WORLD FINALS at Iowa State University on May 21-24. This is an amazing honor and opportunity for the boys to be one of the ten teams to represent the State of NC (only two elementary schools in the entire state to advance in their category) while competing against 23 countries on an international stage.
These boys have been working for months on their problem “Rocking World Detour.” The Spirit of the problem is to create an original performance about a rock band on tour that gets transported to an unexpected location while playing a song. The band used music to get back on tour. Along with writing and performing their original song, this incredible team has worked hard since October to create custom merchandise, handmade instruments and props, costumes, and an original 8 minute script.
While qualifying to compete at Worlds is exciting, the reality is that it’s also very expensive. With the competition beginning on May 21, the team has only a few short weeks to raise funds.
To get to the competition, the team, coach and one chaperone per child must cover:
Transportation to and from Iowa
Lodging and meals
Registration Fee
We deeply appreciate any assistance you can provide to help RIPTIDE get to the World Finals!! Your donation will go a long way towards providing these talented students with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase their talents, meet students from other countries, and proudly represent Dare County at an international competition.
This fundraiser benefits the Odyssey of the Mind team going to Worlds.
All donations are through the KHES PTO and are 501c3 tax deductible.
Thank you!
Team members include: Kohl Duffy, Nathan Schleiden, Canon McLean, Llewellyn Snider, Jack Silk and James Houff. Coach: Jessica McLean
**Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from elementary school through college. Along with their performance, students also compete in a spontaneous round where the team works together to solve a problem in front of a group of judges.
