The Story

Life has been extremely challenging for our dear Penny, a loving grandmother who has tried to keep her family together at all costs. Unfortunately, following a nasty divorce during the pandemic, her landlord sold her home out from underneath her. Even after a lifetime of customer service in the food industry, Penny is now disabled and struggling.

Unable to afford a new place for herself and her pets, Penny's been forced to couch surf, sell personal belongings, and even endure elder abuse and identity theft by her own cousin. Now, she and her furred and feathered family are forced to live in her car on the hot Vegas streets. However, through it all, Penny never gives up on finding a safe haven for herself and her beloved pets.

The Hope

Thankfully, Penny's family has found her a room with a private bath and a refrigerator in her grandparents' old neighborhood. But there's a catch - the $650 monthly rent is nearly $300 more than what her Social Security covers for housing. That's where you come in, our generous and kind-hearted helpers!

The Impact

$50 provides a day of gas and food for Penny and the animals

$75 covers the fees for surrendering ONE animal to a no-kill shelter, if they can't stay together

$150 covers a pet sitter so Penny can attend self-help and medical appointments

$650 provides one month's rent

$1,300 secures the room, with the first and last month's deposits

$7,800 ensures a year's worth of rent payments

$10,000 houses and feeds Penny and her animals for an entire year while she waits for Social Security disability subsidized housing
