My name is Polly Lehman, and together with my brother Lee and our friends and family, we've supported our mom in recovering from the biggest health scare of her life.
At 64 years old, Pam was in the best physical health of her life. Then, in April 2024, Pam's health took a turn for the worse. She began feeling incredibly weak, and after a few days at home not eating and feeling worse each day, on Friday, April 5th her friends brought her to the Emergency Room at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. She had a 103 degree fever and couldn’t form a coherent sentence or walk on her own. The doctors ran many initial tests, but they all came back clear. All they could tell us was that she had a serious infection.
Pam spent the next few days in the ICU receiving heavy doses of antibiotics while her excellent team of doctors ran every test they could think of. She was not fully awake and aware for the better part of each day, and was constantly fighting a fever and full body inflammation. It was a very scary time for all of us.
On Thursday, April 11th they performed a bone marrow biopsy which, in Pam's words, she took "like a flippin' rockstar." This biopsy showed a high grade, Stage 4, DLBCL type Lymphoma Cancer. Additionally, her doctors explained that the Lymphoma Cancer triggered HLH, a rare disease in adults that causes one’s immune system to go haywire and attack itself. This condition is extremely rare, with the doctors only knowing of one other similar case.
On Monday, April 15th, Pam began Chemotherapy treatment for Lymphoma Cancer and HLH. Her doctors used a “cocktail” of chemotherapy drugs to treat the broad spectrum of inflammation and immune system activity in her body. We let her doctors know that Pam LOVES a good cocktail!

Fast forward through 3 months at the hospital and Pam's condition has improved dramatically. She is alert, aware, and finally feeling like herself again. We're so grateful for her friends and family for supporting her in every possible way, we couldn't do this without you.

This week Pam completed the 4th of her 6 scheduled chemotherapy treatments, and is feeling stronger every day. She participates enthusiastically in Physical and Occupational Therapy at both the hospital and Sholom Home West transitional care facility, walking laps around her room and lifting arm weights in bed.

While we are all beyond grateful for the exceptional care Pam has received at Methodist Hospital and Sholom Home West, what we want more than anything is for her to continue her treatment comfortably in her own home. Unfortunately, her home is not accessible for her current and future physical needs. This is why we need your help.
In order to get home, Pam needs:
- To gain the strength needed to climb the stairs in her home
- Safety railings and grab bars throughout her home
- A new, accessible bathtub and updated shower features
- Physical therapy equipment for home exercises
- Accessibility tools for every day activities
While Pam is working as hard as she can to gain the physical strength she needs to get home, we want to do everything we can to ensure her home is ready for her! This is why we're asking you to please contribute to this fund, in any way that is meaningful to you, to Help Get Pam Home!
Lastly, thank you again for all your love and support over the last few months. We are all extremely grateful to have such a supportive and loving community!
