Help Get Our 2nd Graders to Their 1st Field Trip!

Hello all,

My name is Margot May and I am a second-grade teacher at Aspire Monarch Academy. We are currently fundraising to cover the cost of bus transportation for our scholars' first field trip!

We are hopeful that with your support we will be able to meet our goal to provide our students with a quintessential elementary school experience.

Our students, alongside many children in the U.S. and globally, have had their educational experience severely impacted by the pandemic. Nevertheless, our scholars have persevered through distanced online learning, class-wide Covid outbreaks, and a multitude of additional barriers to learning.

As their teachers, it has been challenging to see the opportunities both in and outside of the classroom that our students have not yet been able to experience.

Our team has arranged for the second grade to visit the Chabot Watershed. Here, our students will have the opportunity to learn about some of the natural resources located right here in Oakland. Our students will also be able to see firsthand how human behavior impacts our ecosystems and develop an understanding of how to become good stewards of our natural world. Most importantly, students will have the chance to create memories with their classmates outside of our typical learning environment. We want to show them that learning does not stop outside the classroom!

Mi nombre es Margot May y soy maestra de segundo grado en Aspire Monarch Academy. ¡Actualmente estamos recaudando fondos para cubrir el costo del transporte en autobús para la primera excursión de nuestros estudiantes!

Tenemos la esperanza de que con su apoyo podamos alcanzar nuestra meta de brindarles a nuestros estudiantes una de las experiencias de la escuela primaria por excelencia.

Nuestros estudiantes, junto con muchos niños en los EE. UU. y en todo el mundo, han visto su experiencia educativa gravemente afectada por la pandemia. Sin embargo, nuestros estudiantes han perseverado a través del aprendizaje en línea a distancia, los brotes de Covid en toda la clase y una multitud de barreras adicionales para el aprendizaje.

Como sus maestros, ha sido un desafío ver las oportunidades tanto dentro como fuera del salón de clases que nuestros estudiantes aún no han podido experimentar.

Nuestro equipo ha hecho arreglos para que el segundo grado visite la Cuenca de Chabot. Aquí, nuestros estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de aprender sobre algunos de los recursos naturales ubicados aquí en Oakland. Nuestros estudiantes también podrán ver de primera mano cómo el comportamiento humano impacta nuestros ecosistemas y desarrollar una comprensión de cómo convertirse en buenos administradores de nuestro mundo natural. Lo que es más importante, los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de crear recuerdos con sus compañeros de clase fuera de nuestro entorno de aprendizaje típico. ¡Queremos mostrarles que el aprendizaje no se detiene fuera del aula!
