Hello friends and family. We have been incredibly fortunate to turn our dream of becoming family business owners into a reality. Being able to do something we love while serving our communities and putting smiles on faces has been a blessing. The feeling of fulfilling your purpose is priceless. I am sincerely grateful to all of our customers for your encouragement and support you've shown since the beginning. Oozey B’s is nothing without you. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
For the past year and a half, we've been bootstrapping and making the best with what we have to keep things running and moving forward with all intentions of growing. In the beginning, as with any small business, we knew we had a journey ahead of us. We knew it would be difficult with me primarily handling the day-to-day workload of Oozey B's by myself, while Lisa maintained her career to support our family. We knew we were bringing something new and unique to the food truck community and chose to push forward. We also knew our family pick-up truck that we used to pull our food trailer was giving us all she had. The trailer weight pretty much maxed out our truck's tow capacity, but that was our only option at the time. We had invested the majority of our start-up money into getting the business up and running. This included the trailer and equipment costs, licensing and permit costs, as well as insurance, food, and other business expenses, while trying to juggle our home and family expenses as well. We soon realized the weight of the trailer was just too heavy to be safely towed by our truck. This limited us to what events we could do, and the distance we could travel.
As many of you have probably realized, lately I haven't been actively posting our hours and ads on social media, and we haven't been open for the past month. The constant mechanical issues with our truck are the reason why. Our truck is no longer in running condition. Ultimately, the weight of the trailer has taken its toll on our truck, and we are no longer able to safely use it to pull our Oozey B's trailer.
To be honest, this has hit me and my family very hard. Although I'm in public spaces and social media professionally, I typically don't share much of my personal life. As a father of 4, not only was Oozey B's a means of financial income, but I used it as an opportunity of life lessons and experience for my children (especially my 2 teenage boys) with hopes of building a foundation which they themselves could learn from and build off of if they chose to. Some of you may have met them on the trailer as well. They too have an entrepreneurial spirit that I am committed to nurturing.
With that said, this is my call for help. Repairing our truck is going to cost more than we have right now. And even then, I'm worried it would only be a temporary fix. What we really need is a more powerful truck that can safely and reliably tow our trailer. I've been struggling trying to find a solution that we could pursue to get back on the road. But ultimately it comes down to funding. We need help. We're grateful for any contribution, big or small, that can help us get back on the road and open to the public. Your donation will help raise the finances we would need to purchase a safe and reliable truck, as well as contribute to other business expenses. In the event we are not able to raise enough money to put towards a newer truck, we will put the money into repairing our current truck as best as possible, with hopes that one day we can make it to being able to afford the truck that we need.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I am extremely grateful for all of the customers that have enjoyed our food. All the schools, businesses, wineries and bars, city and community events that have had us out, THANK YOU. We hope to see you soon!
