It is with great pride that I have been selected to represent Great Britain in the upcoming Va’a World Sprint Championships in Hilo, Hawaii in August 2024.
This is a fantastic opportunity and I am thrilled to be chosen.
“You can never have too many (world) champions in the family"—my niece and current Olympic gold medallist and world champion in the 200m and 400m freestyle swimming events - Ariarne Titmus on hearing I had achieved Silver at the recent Great Britain Outrigger National Sprint Championships at Dorney Lake, England. She mentioned this to me again when I was selected by Great Britain Outrigger as part of the GB squad to go to Hawaii.
My family have a record of representing Australia in swimming, cycling, triathlon, paddle boarding and now I am representing Great Britain in the Va’a (single outrigger canoe) in the Master 60 Women’s V1 event.
It is with great pride that I have been selected to represent Great Britain in the upcoming Va'a World Sprint Championships in Hilo, Hawaii in August 2024. This is a fantastic opportunity and I am thrilled to be chosen.
My love of outrigging was made stronger when I took part in the 2022 Worlds at Dorney, hosted by Great Britain Outrigger, steering the Hurricanes ClubMaster 60 club crew.
I changed to the single va'a and have been training solidly since October 2023.
Being on the water in a va'a is like an extension of myself. I love the feel of the water around me and being at one with the natural world. I am incredibly lucky to be able to train at Silverwing Lake, Wraysbury all year round and have the support of the Hurricanes Dragonboat and Paddling Club.
