To my friends and family and the amazing heartfelt individuals that I do not know personally,
My son, Neo, is into his third year studying Mandarin. The Berkeley High program is headed by an inspiring woman who seeks out opportunities for her students to travel to China and interact as student ambassadors. The class is Neo's most challenging, and the rewards have been tremendous.
Last year, many of you helped send Neo to Taiwan. It was a magnificent experience. It was his first time being immersed in a culture outside of the United States. After he returned, it took weeks for him to find his voice and share the images he saw and the emotions he felt. He was so blown away and so grateful.
Well folks, it looks like we created a monster (smile). This spring the teacher has scheduled a trip to China. The focus on the trip takes the students outside of the bustling cities and into the smaller villages and provinces. It is a trip that tourists to the country rarely encounter.
Neo's dream is to engage in international business between the US and Asian countries. This type of opportunity is a stepping stone towards making it happen. After traveling to Taiwan, my son understands the value of living and breathing a country through its people. He still keeps in touch with his Taiwan penpal and is looking forward to adding a high school student in China to exchange with.
Neo has been working very hard with the Mandarin language to earn this travel opportunity. We've gotten the deposits in, but need to raise the rest of the funds to secure his travel visa, plane tickets, and accomodations in the country. The only way we can make it happen is with your help.
