Help give me a second chance

Hello all! My name is Natalie, raised in Reading, graduate of the University of the West of England and aspiring Polar Climate Researcher.

I have received an offer to study an MPhil in mapping past climates at the University of Cambridge this autumn, and have been accepted into Hughes Hall. It is an incredible opportunity for anyone but for me, who comes from a low-income area of Reading, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. This is why I need your help today, as I don’t have all of the fees needed to take up my studies.

The money you contribute will go directly towards my tuition fee shortfall, a compulsory residential school required by my course and my first term’s accommodation costs. I have received a loan from Student Finance to cover the rest of my maintenance costs, as paid work is not permitted by Cambridge during term time.

I am not eligible for any Cambridge scholarships because of the point in the year that I was admitted so I have submitted applications to several charities for contributory grants but, to date, I have not had a response from any of them.

With very limited funding for students of my age, and after exhausting all other options, I now only have 2 weeks to raise the funds so that I can take up my place in October 2020.

Therefore, I am fundraising for my shortfall of £5,000. I would really appreciate it if you could donate £15 or more to help me get to Cambridge.  Of course, this is only a suggestion - I would appreciate any help you can give.

You can help make a difference in my life by helping me get qualified so I can apply for the polar research positions I've only ever dreamed about. My passion is Paleoclimatology (the study of past climates) and this course is essential in teaching me the necessary skills and knowledge in climate reconstruction.

Therefore I am determined to get to Cambridge so I will get the best possible chance - in knowledge and in creating an invaluable network - at achieving my dream.

As a Thank You...

As a thank you, I can offer the following rewards for your generous donation:

£15 - A HUGE virtual thank you on my dedicated Facebook page and twitter.

£25 - A HUGE virtual thank you and exclusive access to my blog ‘Second Chance’ which documents my time at Cambridge and advice on changing career directions.

£50 - All of the above as well as a copy of my research once it is completed.

£100 + - Everything above PLUS a written dedication to your generosity in my research, putting your name permanently in ink in the University of Cambridge archives.

Stay safe and thank you again for your donation.
