On the 7th April 2018, my mum was up all night with pains in her lower stomach and back which she thought was consitipation at this time my mum never knew anything else apart from the pain she was in. She was taking to cross house hospital on the morning and they treated her for constipation and as the pain wasn’t budging they decided to to a scan on her to see if there was anything shown up, she got quite poorly over the next few days and was eventually told she had a kidney stone to which she was rushed to Ayr hospital for emergency surgery as the stone was blocked in her kidney.. this was on the Tuesday 10th April, my sister in law and sister and brother were at the hospital while she got the surgery which was to last between 1 hour to 1 half hours and they would get a call when it was finished. The time passed and no one contacted, eventually they got a call to go along to the relatives room where they were told my mums op didn’t go well.. when they placed the stent in my mum had a boil behind her kidney which wasn’t spotted in the scan that was done at xhouse and unfortunately this burst while the op was getting done, they managed to get a bit of the puss out but the majority flooded through my mums body sending her into multi organ failure my mum had got sepsis and this lead to speptic shock.. my mum was placed on a kidney dialysis machine and a lot of medication as well as being ventilated. They told us they were struggling to stabilise my mum and we had to to call for our immediate family as my mum wasn’t improving. This was a very upsetting thing to hear that my mum was critical for the next 24-48 hours. We stayed by her side the night she was admitted to ICU at Ayr where the staff were lovely and gave us numerous updates. On the second day of my mum being in intensive care she had started to deteriorate and they had to give her a more serious ventaliation by flipping my mum into her tummy to help her lungs get the oxygen. She remained on the life support and we were told by the doctor she couldn’t believe my mum had made this through the night. Over a week had passed and there were tiny improvements but no where near out the woods.. we noticed my mums arm started to turn a dark colour and her finger tips were going black.. her toes and feet were the same.. 5 weeks on my mum started to come round from the Sudation and was very confused as to where she was. We were told that my mum was going to loose her arm and postentially her two legs due to the blood not getting to these areas.. she eventually woke and was told that her hand and feet were black and she would be loosing these which she was very confused and heartbroken about as was the family. The day finally came for my mum to get the breathing machine out where we could then speak to her it was the best feeling to hear my mum speak! The doctor came and spoke to her to tel her the news about her legs and arm.. 2 weeks later she was taken for her operation to have her two legs removed and her right arm. But we didn’t care she was alive! To think a tiny kidney stone caused my mum to almost loose her life..
My mum beat SEPSIS and I’m so proud of her.. To think she was dead to how she is today. She is a survivor! We are so bloody proud of you mum you should be to! ❤️
