Hi my names jodie birkin and I'm 34 but suffered a major stroke at 33 in July 2025. Prior to this I had outstanding physical disability but was still an outdoor person prefer nature over humanity, even lived in the woods for 6 months, (something I'd like to get back to), worked on power stations and also as a water treatment engineer amongst other things like forklift driver telehandler driver etc, so very hands on work which I was very interested in but then in July last year my whole world turned upside down, I was hospitalised for a few months, lost ability to talk walk eat, left side paralysed, left with brain injury, had to wear adult nappy I call them (incontinence pads) at the age of 33 very embarrassing, nothing something I would have imagined in my early 30s but as with strokes it takes so much more away from you than just your limbs or cognativity. It reshape your whole life you have to become an adapter to everything. Not something I thought I'd go through at my age. But age doesn't matter to stroke they can happen at any age and can disable u in many ways most not visable I am now left with brain damage mobility issues, cognitive impairment unable to regulate emotions needing help to shower, cut my hair short as i couldn't put it up, unable to walk, work or attempt a normal life and becoming disabled costs so much. Who'd have thought just to get a device to help me walk because of my foot drop and none responsive ankle and foot, would cost more than a mortgage, as not available on NHS in my area as its postcode lottery with the NHS. Iv spent most of my savings on disability equipment to help me live more independently. I have to re do my driving test, get a adapted automatic car just to have some freedom again. So I'm looking for help in the community to assist me getting my life back in hope I can return to college and get a qualification in something I can use to go back to work as my current qualifications are mostly hands on im unable to do this any more. Please help get my life back on track even if its changed course. I currently live in a village with no public transport or WAV (wheelchair accessible) taxis so I can't currently get out of my home so an adapted car would get me back on track. I can't get a pip car currently due to personal circumstances. (I have tried)
£2500 automatic car
£2000 for adaptive steering
£500 lessons for adaptation
1800 FES device to help my none working limbs move again to regain a somewhat normal life.
Any help is appreciated. I'm looking to go back to college to learn something new so I can go back to work.
