SELECTED!!

We are unbelievably thrilled to be able to announce that Michael has been selected by Paralympic Ireland! Michael is extremely proud to be part of Team Ireland and compete in the paralympics, August 2021!

Firstly, we would like to thank all of the donators for the contributrions already made. The initial £6,000 raised allowed Michael to train, travel and compete in all competitions, including Munich, Germany, in which he managed to get a hat-trick of wins and exceed the minimums scores to be selected!

Team Ireland are funding the horse transport, flights, hotels and other expenses for Tokyo.

Michael's journey is partially funded, however is still short of approx. £20,000. This sum goes towards the care of the horses, the payment of trainers, the upkeep of the horses plus a number of other various expenses.

Michael also has amazing support from his sponsors who supply him all of his gear.

The number of generous donations and continued support has really spurred Mike and the team on. We, as the fundraising team & Mike’s team cannot thank you enough.

One, final, push!

Who is Michael Murphy?

Michael Murphy is a 23 year old young man who was born with a rare neurological degenerative disorder called Dejerine-Sottas. As a result, he now has very limited sensation and movement in his arms and legs, which results in having no saving reactions, very little muscular strength and as a result of having a double spinal fusion, he also has a metal rod alongside his spine. He has limited mobility and is reliant on his wheelchair to be independent.

He is an aspiring Para Dressage Rider who is a member of Team Ireland and is on course to compete in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. However, Dressage is an extremely financially demanding sport and as such, he needs substantial funding to make this a reality.

Michael is a strong, focused and determined young man who is extremely inspirational. He has never let his disability stop him from achieving, which is evident as he successfully graduated from Warwick University in Biology whilst continuing to being a team member & competitor for Team Ireland in Para Dressage.

Why are we fundraising?

We are inspired to help Michael achieve his goal of getting to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and World Championships. His older brother, James, who tragically passed away in an accident 5 years ago, was our very close friend since childhood. Seeing Michael grow up and deal with his disability and loss of his brother, we have witnessed first hand the strength, commitment and desire he has to live life to the full.

How have we fundraised so far?

Many individuals have helped us raise funds for Michael's journey and a number of challenges have been completed in order to raise the money! Us as a fundraising team challenged ourselves physically and mentally by successfully completing the 24hr National Three Peaks Challenge within 22hrs 58 minutes, followed by completing the Full Tough Mudder, 2 weeks later.

Other members of the friends and family have managed to raise money by undertaking personal challenges such as losing a certain amount of weight in a particular time frame and undergoing a 48hr challenge to walk 100miles!

How you can help Michael get to Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games

Substantial funding is required for Michael to attend & compete in Internationals in order to qualify for his Paralympic goal. Please give as you are able, to support this inspirational athlete. All donations, regardless of size, are highly appreciated and will have a huge impact on his life.
