Help send me to Powerlifting Nationals

Hello! My name is Mackenzie! I found powerlifting after I tore my ACL twice as a competitive rugby player. Powerlifting has brought me a wonderful community and allowed me to heal mentally and physically (not my ACL though, lol those don’t heal themselves)! At my first competition in 2019 the total weight I lifted was enough to qualify for Nationals. Covid aside, I was not yet confident enough in my knowledge of the sport to try and compete in 2020. However this past weekend at Western Championships in Richmond, I set multiple personal records and feel like I am now ready to be competitive on the National stage. At the weekend’s competition, I set BC provincial records in Squat, Benchpress, and Deadlift, as well as an overall provincial record lifting a total of 576.5kg/1270lbs! I also set 2 National Benchpress records by lifting 130kg/286.6lbs, then following it up with 136.5kg/300.9lbs! As of now, I am approximately 3rd in the country for my weight and age. This is exciting because possibly I could compete at Worlds in the future too!

For now, I am looking at competing and making podium at Nationals in St. Johns, Newfoundland in Spring of 2022. I have started this fundraiser because I am a full time Master’s student in speech-language pathology in the Faculty of Medicine at UBC. Though I am graduating in Summer of 2022, currently I live on student loans that don’t leave wiggle room to pursue competitive sport. I appreciate your consideration in helping me continue with training and allowing me the opportunity to compete at Nationals to represent BC. Donations will go towards gym fees, physiotherapy, flight costs, competition fees, and living expenses for both me and a coach.
