Help get Mady a Seizure Alert Dog!

Mady Hobaugh is a beautiful 9-year-old little girl born with a life-threatening rare genetic and neurological disorder.  Being diagnosed at the age of 2 with Periventricular Nodule Heterotopia, the main symptoms that accompany this disorder are epilepsy, hypotonia, global delays as well as being non-verbal.  Being nonverbal makes it very difficult for Mady’s family to know when and if she is having a seizure.  After trying and adjusting numerous epileptic medications, Mady still has breakthrough seizures, some multiple times a day lasting  upwards of 15 minutes and always requiring an admission to Children's Hospital.  Following the hospital stay, Mady's family then has to deal with months of medicine changes and closely monitoring Mady day and night.  Nighttime is especially difficult for Mady's parents.  This dog will help Mady if she would have a seizure by alerting the family and getting the proper medical care.  

Dogs are amazing animals! A seizure alert dog will be able to naturally detect an oncoming seizure and warn Mady's parents of the seizure. A Seizure Alert Dog will improve the quality of Mady's life by alerting her parents/school teachers up to an hour ahead of time that a seizure is imminent. This gives the parents time to take precautions such as lying the child down and getting proper medical attention.

The cost for training a dog to detect seizures is expensive.  These dogs will build a special relationship with their owners and will have 2+ years of specialized training.  Any donations are appreciated!

Adam and Kate Hobaugh are from Elizabeth PA, they are raising funds for their daughter Mady who is in need of a medical alert dog to help detect seizures. The donations will be sent to Perfect Fit Canines in Pittsburgh PA to purchase a service dog.
