Help Get Louie Back On His Feet

Donation protected
TL:DR
Louie was our first attempt at fostering a dog, we immediately fell in love with him and became epic foster failures.
A few weeks in we found out that he has a torn ACL which requires (expensive) surgery to correct, surgery that we can’t afford right now.
The vet has given him a full checkup and besides his leg injury he is in great shape. He had dental surgery and only needed to have one tooth pulled.

The rescue we are fostering with has located an out of town vet who will do the surgery at the discounted price of (approximately) $3,400.00 and we made the appointment for the end of September.

We plan to adopt Louie, want to give him the life and dignity he deserves, and are committed to doing everything we can so his leg heals and he can go on to be an active dog.

How it came to be

Eric and I decided to foster a dog for many reasons, primarily we wanted to see how our dog Jack responded to having a younger dog in the house. Jack is getting older (13) and needs some new blood to perk him up.
I reached out to a local rescue to inquire about their foster program and they responded with the bios for 3 dogs who were in need of foster care. Louie was the smallest of the dogs and the picture was adorable so we brought Jack to the rescue to meet him.

It went well, Louie was a sweet boy from the second we met him.

We originally agreed to care for him for a few weeks until his dental surgery, once he was all healed up we would help him get ready for his new life and take him to adoption events.
But, Eric and I both knew this was our dog. He’s a melty little pile of love and a perfect fit for our little family. Louie seems to be giving Jack more purpose and helping with his anxiety, Jack loves having a job herding Louie.

Currently we push him around in a dog stroller so he doesn’t miss out on life. We’ve introduced him to everyone from our neighborhood dog meet up and he has really been enjoying laying in the grass watching the dogs play- he really loves the people and is a very social dog.

When we brought Louie home I took him on long walks and nicknamed him ‘Spaghetti Legs’ because of his long legs- his back legs were really stiff and his front ones were all over the place- like cooked spaghetti. It turns out he walks this way because of the injury.

We’re raising money to cover the cost of the surgery and one night's accommodations near the animal hospital in Elk Grove which is 90 miles away (he will be staying overnight).

We love our Louie and want to give him the life and dignity he deserves, but don’t have the means to do so at this time. So.. we need your help! If you are unable to donate but still want to help, please consider sharing this page.
