Lachlan Duffey experienced a life-changing spinal cord injury resulting in quadriplegia in September 2023 at the age of 18. Following the accident, he was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he began an intensive 18-month hospital stay focused on recovery and rehabilitation. His journey has been marked by resilience and unwavering strength as he worked through the challenges of healing and rebuilding his life.
Lachlan’s has drawn incredible strength and motivation from his enthusiasm for boxing throughout his rehabilitation. This passion for boxing has not only helped him grow stronger each day but allowed him to be part of a community beyond the confinement to his medical needs and discover possibilities he was once told were impossible. With a fighter’s spirit and an unbreakable will, he continues to push boundaries, proving that resilience, determination, and belief can defy expectations.
Throughout his journey, Lachlan has had the steadfast support of his mother, Sonia, who has been unwavering in her commitment to ensuring he receives the complex care required. Her dedication to providing 24/7 support has been the cornerstone of his rehabilitation but limitations and unnecessary bureaucracy imposed by government funding bodies have caused ongoing financial hardship and delays.
Now, Lachlan is ready to return home to Rockhampton, where he has access to all the support he needs to continue his rehabilitation. As he and Sonia prepare for this transition, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help raise much-needed funds for the transportation of their belongings back home. Every contribution will support Lachlan in settling into this next phase of his journey, ensuring he has everything he needs to continue his rehabilitation in the place he calls home.
