Help Khloe with traveling funds to save her life
In February of 2020, a mass was found in Khloe’s chest for just a routine X-ray because she was a bit wheezy. Come to find out, this “mass” has been growing for years. Immediately, she was admitted to Peyton Manning children’s hospital. She received inpatient treatment, and after many, many tests, it was found that Khloe’s tumor is Histoplasmosis. Histoplasmosis is a disease caused by bird and bat feces. Simply, just by playing in the dirt. They treated Khloe with steroids, which shrunk the mass, but little did we know, it would come back with a vengeance
6 months later, after many months of outpatient care, Khloe returned for a follow up CT. After doing so, her doctors were very saddened to tell me there was no more they could do for Khloe. They explained that the mass had grown in with too many main arteries and they could not do anymore.
As a mother, I couldn’t accept this answer. It was just completely unacceptable. Instantaneously, I took her to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital . This was July of 2020. They took her case very seriously, immediately having a whole team on her case. The wonderful doctors treated her as a new patient, like it was day one. All new research, just to make sure we were still dealing with Histoplasmosis. Unfortunately, after all of the test results came back, they confirmed that the mass was still active histoplasmosis. The doctors decided to keep her on her oral fungal medication, for another couple months.
We returned to Cincinnati a couple months later for a repeat scan. Sadly, they confirmed the medicine hadn’t made a difference. Our last hope was a medicine that was given to her via IV every 24 hours. This medicine was supposed to break the outside of the mass apart so then the oral medication could kill the active cells inside. This hospital stay was 17 days. When Khloe was given the medicine, her airways closed and Khloe couldn’t breathe. She had an Angel on her shoulder that day. The multiple doctors who helped bring her back, she was okay again.
The next day, they started the medicine again with others so she wouldn’t code again. This time, Khloe took the medicine well. After this stay, she was on oral medication for another fewmonths. Her and I went back for a repeat scan to hear the news that none of the medications were going to help her anymore.
They also confirmed they did not have a doctor comfortable with doing any kind of procedure on her because of the way the mass is already crushing her airway, they say they are not able to fit any tubing down her throat.
Khloe has been med free since October of 2020, and it’s beginning to get to the point where she is struggling to breathe again. There is no one around here who can help her. I have donemuch research, and Boston is ranked one of the best next to Cincinnati.
Being a single mom to three kiddos, I just don’t have the funds to get her and I all the way out there but I HAVE to save my baby. Flights alone are outrageous, bills at home will be piling up while I am gone. I appreciate everyone and anything that anyone can contribute.
