Help Get Kane Malloe-Viritua Home 2021
Aloha Ohana, friends and all!
My name is Chanel Malloe and I’m starting this fundraiser to help my 8 year old nephew, Kāne Malloe-Viritua. Unfortunately, we received news on June 4th that Kāne was diagnosed with Osteomyelitis at Hilo Medical Center on the Big Island of Hawaii. The onset of symptoms and the diagnosis was highly unexpected and equally urgent. And, due to this condition being considered a rare disease, especially for his age, Kāne’s Dad Matahi was advised that he should be med-evac’d immediately. Because Kāne has a younger sister who needed to travel with her Dad & brother the med-evac was unable to accommodate them, and the family needed to fly commercial instead paying for this emergency expense out of pocket just to rush to fly Kāne to a hospital for women and children in Honolulu, on the island of O’ahu; which ultimately was necessary for Kāne to have proper access to the medications and treatment he needs.
Upon arrival and admittance, the doctors optimistic hope was that Kāne’s treatment would only take 5 days. Unfortunately, on June 7th due to the aspects of this condition, we were notified that Kāne will be admitted for possibly several weeks or possibly longer depending on further testing and his response to treatments.
Regrettably, Kāne’s mom has removed herself from him and his sister’s life for a while, leaving their dad Matahi to do it all on his own. Matahi has been staying strong no matter what comes their way, and his desire to provide, protect and be there for his children demonstrates his love so immensely for them. But as you all know, COVID has been rough for many families. And, this family is no different, except that now they also have to deal with the challenges of a rare diagnosis, long hospital stays and the need for their Dad to return to his job on the Big Island to continue to provide for his family. The purpose of this fundraiser request is so Kāne’s father can continue to be by his side as much as he can by traveling back and forth from the hospital here on Oahu and their home island to work and to keep his home, so his children will have a roof over their head when Kāne is finally able to go home again. It is my hope that with this fundraiser, we are able to help my nephew and his family who are already suffering hardship due to financial loss caused by COVID and shortened work hours… and the new additional hardship of medical expenses, traveling costs, and living expenses as Matahi endeavors to keep Kāne in a hospital that will afford him the best chances of receiving the utmost care and treatment.
Please kokua; help us by donating to this family because in supporting this family unit you are supporting Kāne in his recovery. Your donations, love and prayers are deeply appreciated and are helping to provide Kāne and Matahi with much needed peace, comfort, strength, and support throughout this ordeal.
Mahalo Nui Loa (Thank you so much)!
