Help get Jordan out of Morehouse

Dear esteemed friends and family,

My name is Jordan Littlejohn and I’m a Junior Business Management major at Morehouse College, minoring in Cinema, Television and Emerging Studies (CTEMS).

I arrived at Morehouse College Fall 2014, and was on track to graduate in 2018, however, due to the loss of my father (Fall 2015) and my grandfather (Spring 2019), along with financial setbacks, my academic career has been placed on hold for the past two years. In addition to financial setbacks, I was impacted by the policy—Academic Pace—the time in school vs. hours completed—and was not allowed to receive financial aid. When I did not receive financial aid, my Mom suffered a financial hardship, paying out of pocket and applying for parent plus loans.

It has been a very long and tedious process to accumulate funds to get back into my beloved institution. At times, this process has been very discouraging, as I’ve seen a lot of my peers graduate and begin their careers, while enduring negative feedback from friends and family suggesting I complete my academic journey at other institutions. Sometimes, I question if graduating from Morehouse is worth the hassle and then I snap back to my senses. There is no place I would rather be than on the hallowed grounds of Morehouse College—the place where I developed from a boy to a man. A place in which I’ve had my greatest triumphs and greatest failures, where I have loved and lost, and a place where I’ve gained a second family outside of my own.

If you were to invest in me, I guarantee that you will see a significant return on your investment. While I was enrolled, I played one year of Tiger Football, served as an on-campus counselor for students dealing with mental health challenges, served as NAACP Vice President, served as executive board member for LYTEhouse—a mentoring organization for incoming freshman, and volunteered every Saturday with the Fulton County Juvenile Court (FCJC) where I mentored two young men in high school. I continued working with the FCJC when I wasn’t in school and was awarded the opportunity to be a mentor at Steve Harvey’s Annual Summer Youth Camp before moving back home to Memphis last Summer.

It has been a long two years of not being enrolled in college, however, I’ve been humbled by this setback and have grown throughout this process.  I’ve worked for a local record store which aligns with my goal of working in the music industry, I’ve worked in Morehouse on campus dining establishment all day just to make ends meet while also putting what I can on my tuition, and I’ve begun working on a social media business platform focused on sports, arts, politics, and technology.

When I am re-enrolled, my Morehouse journey will ascend to new heights as a result of the hunger that has accumulated within me. If you are able to assist me on this journey in any way, my family and I would be forever grateful to you. I have a renewed focus on my academic studies and a desire to succeed, personally and professionally.

Thanks for your time, consideration, and willingness to hear my story. May God bless you all

Sincerely,
