URGENT: Guero Was 45 Minutes From Euthanasia — Help Get Him Home by Oct. 10
My name is Casey, and I’m just an individual adopter, I don’t have a rescue or nonprofit, but I saw Guero’s story on a rescues page coming out of a high-kill shelter in San Bernardino, California, and I simply couldn’t leave him behind.
Guero is a young, deaf dog who was scheduled to be euthanized. I committed to him about 45 minutes before his deadline, and thankfully, he was able to leave the shelter and begin his journey to me on the East Coast.
But his journey isn’t over yet. Guero was transported from California to Arizona, where he is currently boarding while waiting for a way East. He has a home waiting for him, but getting him there depends on raising the funds for his transport.
There is a transporter heading East on October 10, and we need to get Guero on that trip. If we miss it, he’ll have to remain in boarding while we try to arrange another way home, and the boarding costs will continue to add up.
What makes this especially hard is that Guero is deaf. He can’t hear the voices around him or know what’s happening before someone approaches. After everything he has already experienced, being in another unfamiliar place without the ability to hear the people and sounds around him must be incredibly confusing.
I keep thinking about this little dog who was once sitting in a shelter, waiting for someone to notice him, and now he’s so close to having a real home, a person of his own, and a quiet place where he can finally settle in. I just need help getting him the rest of the way there.
The $1,545 goal covers the transportation that has already gotten him from California to Arizona, the boarding costs that have accumulated while he waits, and his upcoming transport East on October 10. I want to be transparent about the amount because it covers his journey so far as well as getting him home. We have 10 days to raise the funds and get him on that October 10 transport.
