At a routine checkup, it was determined that Gravy has a mast cell tumor.
“A mast cell tumor (MCT) is a type of malignant (cancerous) tumor consisting of mast cells. Mast cell tumors typically form nodules or masses in the skin, but they can also affect other areas of the body, including the spleen, liver, intestine, and bone marrow. MCTs are the most common skin tumor in dogs (7%–21%).”
This is likely genetic, as pitbulls and other similar breeds can have a predisposition to MCTs.
We are currently looking at surgery to remove the tumor and determine what next steps may be.
The estimate was at least 2k, which is before biopsy to determine the severity of the tumor and what further treatment may be needed (hopefully none).
