As a young child growing up in foster care it’s often the case of not knowing where your future will take you - if anywhere at all. The difference for me was that I always had a dream of becoming a lawyer (OK, originally the one in Legally Blonde, but we can change!) and I had both the motivation and drive to bring that dream to reality. I was also lucky to have had incredibly supportive foster carers, Shelley and Nicholas.
Having just completed my law degree at Greenwich University and achieved a high 2:1, I am ready to embark on the next chapter of being called to the Bar of England and Wales as a barrister specialising in family law. I want to use my experience of being brought up in care to help vulnerable children who find themselves caught up in the care system.
Back in April, after a tough selection process, I secured a place on the Inns of Court College of Advocacy Bar course which will commence in September this year. The total to fund this course is around £18,000.
Unfortunately, student loans are not available for the Bar Finals course and I don’t have family members who are able to help me. I am not going to let that stop me. Over the course of the next 4 months I am going to be fundraising in order to hit my target. One of the biggest challenges I am going to take part in is a sponsored skydive alongside my best friend. Anyone who knows me as well as her will know that this is something neither of us would do by choice. However, opportunity is known to take place outside of your comfort zone and this is exactly where we are going to take ourselves.
I am going to keep all of you updated on the journey I go on. Any support you are able to give, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated.
