Infinity (AKA Finn or Finny) is a bold, courageous and determined young woman. We first met when I was her art teacher and school based mentor 11 years ago. We've been together ever since with the help of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County. As a seven year old she would tell me about her dreams of going to college. She happily talked about being a chef, dancer and psychologist. She's now deeply committed to helping others and is pursuing a degree in political science. Finn hopes one day to be a lawyer helping underserved communities.
Finn is the youngest of seven and the first in her family to go to college. She's fiercely determined to go to a four year university and has worked so hard to get to this point. In a few short weeks she will be a freshman at Wilmington University in Wilmington, Delaware. Financially she is completely on her own. Outside of her financial aid (which covers most but not all of her tuition) she pays for EVERYTHING herself. She's worked two jobs for quite awhile to save up and we've done everything we can to help her get what she needs; it's just not enough. I don't want anything to stand in her way.
Finn has made an impact on my life and the lives of so many. I saw her light the minute she walked into my classroom11 years ago, and it's only become brighter. If you have the ability to donate any amount to help Finn, we'd really appreciate it. We're hoping the money raised will get her through the tough expenses of this first year and create a cushion for next.
With a few caring souls in Finn's corner, her potential is limitless. In my 12 years of teaching I have never met another student like her. You know when you meet someone and their energy and strength is palpable? That's Finn. This girl is a powerhouse and no matter what, she will continue to be amazing. I would just love to see her to be amazing with a college degree!
Thank you so much,
Beth
