Hello everybody, as most folks know, my friend Nym and I were in a terrifying car accident on the 30th of April. First of all, thank you all so so much for the kind words and support so far, it’s much needed and the love is endlessly appreciated. As for the story: We were traveling in my vehicle on northbound I-405 on the way to my apartment for craft night, a motorcyclist shot out in front of my car perpendicular to traffic.
We were in the lefthand HOV lane when a motorcyclist slipped between two slower moving cars on the right, completely out of view, and suddenly appeared directly in front of my vehicle. I had one second to make a decision. I hit my brakes as hard as I could, my car lost traction and I fought to keep control of the vehicle. The cyclist did not move, he stayed in the lane and in the line of where I could still impact him during the couple seconds I attempted to regain control. I had to evade him another time while desperately trying to straighten out.
My car lost traction entirely and my left front fender collided with the highway divider on my left. The impact was strong enough to flip us completely backwards in the lane. My hood and right fender buckled, and my left fender was toast.
The irresponsible motorcyclist sped away immediately, fleeing the scene.
Emergency vehicles arrived after a witness and ourselves called 911, after an officer was on scene, we limped to the right hand shoulder to wait for an ambulance. Luckily, the witness gave her statement about the incident, and we were told by the officer recording our stories that they matched entirely. Due to the severity of the wreck, and my passenger Nym’s life-threatening disabilities, they needed a full body CT scan at the hospital to fully rule out any injuries for them. Luckily, we are both okay medically besides sore and sprained.
My car’s airbags did not deploy during the wreck which gives me a clear indication that they are non-functional. Because of the cost of an airbag system, and the cost of repairing my vehicle, I am going to have to let it go. It cost almost $200 to access our items from the car after the wreck, and it will cost over $600 to pay the towing company that was not covered by my insurance.
My car meant a lot to me. I did all of the repairs on it myself. I am now without a vehicle for the foreseeable future besides my motorcycle. The issue with my motorcycle currently is that I don’t have a dash cam or any type of recording device for rides, and after this accident, I’m a bit shaken up/traumatized out of riding for the moment. So I am asking for help. I am attempting to raise a little money to go towards a car off of fb marketplace or something in that cost range. Nothing fancy, just something to get me from point A to point B. I know how hard things are right now financially for so many people, but if you have the means to donate please feel free to give what you can. I can’t thank people enough for reaching out and for offering their help, rides, and monetary support thus far. It is hard for me to ask for help this way, the support I have felt from the community my whole life has been so lovely and I struggle to ask for any more than I have already. I love you all so much. Thank you for reading and for any help you can give.
