Hello, my name is Summer Hodge and if you don’t know my son's story, here is a little insight into what we have been through since birth.

I’m the proud mother of a heart warrior, Dante Hodge. My son has been fighting for his life since the moment he was born. He is my miracle and warrior, but his journey has been one filled with unimaginable challenges, moments of heartbreak, and incredible strength. Shortly after my 20-week anatomy scan, doctors diagnosed Dante with several complex and life-threatening conditions:

• Pulmonary Atresia with Intact Ventricular Septum (PA/IVS)

• Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome (HRHS)

• Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT) and Tachycardia

• Nonrheumatic Mitral Valve Regurgitation

• Pulmonary Hypertension

These conditions affect how his heart and lungs work, making every single day a battle for survival. At just under 48 hours old, Dante coded. I watched my tiny baby be placed on life support, not knowing if he would survive the night. But he fought through, proving he was a warrior from day one.

On December 31st, my worst fear happened again… he coded for the second time. Once again, life support became his lifeline. We rang in the new year in a hospital room, praying for a miracle, and once again, he fought his way back to me. Life with CHD is never a straight path. We’ve had moments of hope, followed by devastating setbacks. Days where he smiles and plays, and days where machines and monitors keep him alive. Every hospital stay, every surgery, every emergency feels like an emotional roller coaster — but through it all, Dante continues to amaze us with his resilience.

At this point in our journey we don’t know what the future holds for us and this journey. Sadly after our last cardiac cath we got the devastating news that he does not qualify for more surgical interventions and he is in heart and double lung failure so we were told to just make memories and keep him as happy and comfortable as we can. So, me and Dante’s care team came up with the idea to try to get him to Disneyland to see Mickey and enjoy the magical experience with me, his dad, and siblings.
