Help get Cy Rehabbed and Home

We are still so incredibly grateful for all of the love and support we have received through this fundraiser. We have learned we have a $204 dollar copay for each day Cy is in a rehab/nursing facility through May 15. After May 15 (100 days total) we would have to pay everything at 100%. We are hopeful he won’t need that long and want to be home by/at the 100 day mark. This money will be so helpful in paying for those large copay expenses. So again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

2/29 Update:
Wow! I cannot believe the amount of support we have received. We are so incredibly thankful for the surge in prayers and support. I received a call this morning that insurance was stopping all coverage for care and therapies and he wasn’t going to qualify for home health care, either. ‍♀️ So, after a minor panic attack, I took the afternoon off work and drove around and got information, made calls, asked questions and thankfully we got Cy’s coverage switched around and figured out and this goes into effect tomorrow. Praise the lord!! We do still have the non covered days up until this point and other hospital/medical bills. This money raised will go toward these bills and any future needs Cy will have. I prayed for guidance and was led in the right direction. Thank you for your prayers, support, and shares. We love you all!

2/28. Hi, my name is Mallory Hammel and I’m requesting help for my fiance, Cy Lyons. He has been through the wringer the last few months and would rather be the one helping others than the one that is requesting help. He has the biggest heart and always puts the needs of others before his own. But right now, he needs our help.

For those that don’t know, Cy was diagnosed with Covid near the end of November. Due to his MS he had a lot of complications (liver/kidney struggles, pneumonia, intubation, bleeding ulcers, seizures, trach put in and unable to talk, feeding tube, etc…) and had a 5 week stay in the medical ICU at Parkview.

Many prayers were answered and the medical staff got him stable enough to be moved to a facility in Lima, Ohio that specializes in ventilator rehab. He was in Lima for 3-4 weeks and they really helped to improve Cy, too. They got him weaned off the ventilator and breathing on his own, removed the trach and able to talk, and finally got him eating food again!!

His body was ready for the next part of the healing process and he was moved back to Ft Wayne to a Nursing/rehab facility. Being stuck in a hospital bed for so many weeks is hard on anyone, but with Cy’s MS it really impacted his physical abilities. He was unable to move at all and now he can lift his head, and is regaining arm strength each day! We just want him to get back the mobility he had prior to getting sick, to be able to come back home. He has 3 boys, 2 dogs, and myself that are really missing him at home.

Unfortunately, with his MS he isn’t able to make progress as fast as what insurance thinks he should. They think he is ready to come home and this is not the case YET! They have cut off the coverage to have him be able to stay in a facility and receive daily help as he completes physical therapy and occupational therapy. This expense at the facility he is currently at is around $320 dollars a day.

This is where he needs your help. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to be able to afford this for as long as what he probably needs. This money will go toward paying the daily room rate at the facility so Cy can receive the extra help until his body is prepared and able to do it himself and he can come back home to us.

They say a normal person without MS takes around 3 days to recover from 1 day in the hospital. Cy was in the hospital- not moving -for around 8-9 weeks. That’s around 168 days for someone that doesn’t also have multiple sclerosis to recover. He will need longer than that.

Cy has already made tons of progress, which is why the insurance denial came as a shock to us. He is determined to work hard and get back home.

Any help you can give, we will be forever grateful.
