Memorial Bench for Cindy@Deas Island Regional Park

Cindy Packer,  was a devoted mother to three wonderful children, Guadelupe, Derrick and Levi, a loving wife, an amazing daughter, sister, aunt, friend, college and human being. Cindy passed away on December 18, 2018 after enduring many years of different illnesses including Cancer (beat it), Diabetes (under control), Renal (Kidney) Failure (a donor was lined up and we were in final stages for a transplant) among others, but unfortunately suffered a massive heart attack in December and thats what ultimately took her life.  Cindy had much more to give this world and was taken far too soon, link to her obituary.

Cindy was a fighter and always there for anyone who needed help. She was deeply involved in the aboriginal community. She learned the art of beading from elders so she could create traditional regalia for her kids to dance in. She would help parents in trouble who faced the possibility of losing their kids. She was a support, and advocate between the family and social workers. She would help setup brith and safety plans, and bring groceries over to their houses before the social workers visits, etc. She kept a baby kit in the house with Diapers, clothes, bottles, soothers, etc so that if a parent needed a sudden break we would take the baby (or children) and provide some respite for the parent and she was a Resource Parent (RP) for the Family Support Institute where she would help parents in need in the lower mainland. She was also proud member and advocate for the Early Childhood Development (ECD) community and served on the Provincial Steering committee on Aboriginal Infant Development Programs (AIDP). Cindy was a remarkable and  lady with a huge heart who was loved by many people, but especially her Family and Friends.

Personally Cindy was an avid amateur wild life photographer and loved Eagles.  She would frequent Deas Island Regional Park to take pictures of an Eagles nest that was nestled about half way along the path in the park.  Cindy also had a love for the Fraser River as she grow up on it camping and fishing from the time she was a little a girl. Her family and friends would like to get a memorial park bench made for her at Deas Island Regional Park in Delta, British Columbia. The bench will have a view of the Fraser River and be close to the eagles nest she loved to visit with her kids and husband. The spot has been picked and work will begin shortly on the creation of the bench.

At her celebration of life we raised just over $1000 from family and friend that could attend towards the goal of getting her the bench. The Bench Costs $4500 for a 15 year term so we are attempting to raise the other $3500 for her. If any additional funds get raised I will be putting it in to an RESP's for the kids. Guadelupe wants to go to UBC and become a Marine Biologist to help the Salmon (Cindy already has connection in place for G at UBC), Derrick a Fashion Designer (Cindy already has him well on his way getting him in to the 1st annual indigenous fashion show in Vancouver), and Levi wants to be a chef. Cindy always supported the kids and their dream's in any way she could.

Please help us do this for Cindy and the Kids. Thank you for your support!.
