My name is Christian Kinsey. I am 18 years old and currently a senior at Westside Academy. I am senior class president, president of the National Honor Society chapter at my school, Editor-in-Chief of the Westside Academy edition of Detroit Dialogue, and president of the school's Business Professionals of America chapter as well. I have a 4.0 G.P.A. and I am 7th in the state of Michigan for Extemporaneous Speech. Though I may appear to have it all together, it was not always this way. Just two years ago, I was lost. I had no earthly idea what I was doing and I had 1.875 G.P.A. I allowed myself to prioritize entertainment over education and my grades truly suffered. I had a serious wake up call when I was asked to leave the school due to academic ineligibility. It was then that I realized excellence was what would propel me, not trying to watch every show and go out every weekend. After I let myself get so far behind, I was a year behind in my credits. I realized excellence would propel me forward, and put my entire being into making sure I graduated on time. I took a full class load as well as 6 online classes to make up for lost time and ensure I graduated with my class, 2017. I have been on the dean's list since I switched schools with a 3.8 or higher every semester. I am a school leader and I am active in every extracurricular possible. I have been accepted to my #1 choice college, Morehouse, but the largest barrier is funding. My family does not have the funds to send me to the Morehouse Pre-Summer Enrichment Program which I believe will be vital to my success at this amazing institution.
