My youngest son, Benjamin, who is 18 years old, was hospitalized on August 2nd after a terrible accident. Due to his accident, he developed compartment syndrome in both of his thighs and can no longer walk. Compartment Syndrome causes the muscles to swell, which affects the nerves in the legs. The doctors had to cut open his left leg from the knee to the top of his thigh. Due to the risk of infection, the wound had to close from the inside rather than the outside, and the doctors have attempted to close the wound with a skin graft. At the present time, parts of the graft have died and Ben has been on bedrest for the last 8 days in hopes that the graft will successfully adhere to his leg.
As mentioned, due to nerve damage in both of his legs from the compartment syndrome, he is no longer able to walk. He worked hard with physical therapists prior to his bedrest and will continue to as soon as his wound heals.
Benjamin had no health insurance prior to his accident and is going to have many upcoming expenses. He needs help with buying medical equipment, paying hospital bills, and most importantly, getting the physical therapy needed to gain strength and hopefully walk again.
As Ben's mother, it hurts me everyday to see him like this. However, I have hope for his recovery. He is a precious and loving child; he is kindhearted and he deserves the world. We would appreciate any contributions from anyone who feels compelled to help get Ben walking!
