Hi, I’m Gertie’s mom!
From the moment I rescued Gertrude all the way up in Portland, Oregon, I knew her experiencing medical complications was inevitable. She has super bowed back legs, luxating patellas on both legs, and a very delicate long spine. Her family at the time was no longer able to care for her, and I knew I was meant to be her mom.
We have had a couple of back and knee episodes, but nothing to this caliber. Gertie woke up unable to use her back legs. An MRI showed a blown disc and one right next door ready to rupture any day.
Unfortunately, this emergency surgery hurt the pocket a bit ($14000). On a teacher’s salary, not only was I crying at the thought of losing my girl but also at the thought of an empty bank account.
I know so many people have come to love and adore Gertie. If anyone is willing to donate to Gertie’s surgery, that would be amazing. If not, I completely understand, and we will happily take thoughts, prayers, and good energy Gertie’s way.
