Gerson Morales is a 20-year-old asylum seeker from Honduras who has found himself in a heartbreaking and urgent situation. On November 19th, 2025, Gerson was racially profiled and detained in the city of Lakewood, in front of the Chipotle, despite having approved asylum. He was first taken to the Metropolitan Detention Center for five days and then transferred to Adelanto. The law office that processed his asylum paperwork tried to present proof of his status, but was told this could only be done in court because DHS is reopening his case in an effort to deport him. Gerson does not have any family here in the U.S. and is relying solely on the support of a few dedicated community members who are doing everything they can to help him. He is scared, confused and doesn't understand what is going on. Gerson should have never been detained. He was here through approved asylum.

Gerson's master case was scheduled on December 1st, 2025, for a hearing on December 11th, 2025, giving us almost no time to secure legal representation through the already inundated non-profit organizations. We have reached out to the offices of U.S. Congresswoman Norma Torres, Nanette Barragán, and Representative Robert Garcia, but have been told that legal services are currently exhausted. They have advised us to seek a lawyer through other avenues. With so many cases like Gerson's, everyone is stretched thin, and it is extremely heartbreaking to see any and all of our community members be taken. Gerson should have never been detained, and we are determined to fight for his release.

Gerson Morales es un joven solicitante de asilo de 20 años, originario de Honduras, que se encuentra en una situación urgente y desgarradora. El 19 de noviembre de 2025, Gerson fue perfilado racialmente y detenido en la ciudad de Lakewood, en frente de un Chipotle, a pesar de tener asilo aprobado.
