Help Gerry as she is in the last stages of ALS
Donation protected
Hello. It is with a very heavy heart that I am starting this go-fund me page. You never imagine that you would be retiring from a company that you worked decades at, only to find out a year later that you have ALS and the hopes and dreams you had of entering into those "golden years" come to a complete halt. This is the cruelest disease I have ever witnessed and to watch one of my best friends walk through it, has been crushing. Gerry is the most optimistic, honest, hard-working person you would ever meet. Even watching her battle ALS, her positive attitude has always left me in awe. She always tells me it is her faith, and it truly is. She knows that this world and this cruel disease is not the end. She knows that she will be in heaven with her Lord Jesus and we will see her again.
But they need help NOW. Gerry lives with her son and daughter-in-law and they are her main caregivers. Gerry is on Social Security now, but as little as she makes, the fight to get her on Mass Health has not been approved, which means she does not get all the medical assistance that Mass Health would provide. It has now reached a critical point and she is on hospice. She does not want nor does her son, Neil want her to go into a nursing home. Neil has talked to his place of employment and needs to take unpaid FMLA to care for his Mom during these last days. His care and love for his mother is one of the most beautiful things I have ever witnessed but one of the saddest too. It is the one thing Gerry cries about as she has to be so dependent for everything. Again this disease is one of the cruelest as it strips you of all independence and Gerry was one of the most independent people I know!
We do not know how long this will be, but we do know without Neil's income they need help with their bills. Please help. Please. We truly appreciate any donations.
