Help Gerrit and Lindsey get back on their feet

I will start this off by saying that I appreciate you taking the time to read this, as I can only imagine the battles and struggles that you must be facing. I understand times are hard and the world right now is divided, this is a chance to look past the bad and do something good by helping a young couple get back on their feet. On September 6th of this year, tragedy struck our family once again as my brother, Gerrit, returned home from dove hunting with his girlfriend Lindsey only to find their street covered in first responders and saw black smoke filling the air. Lindsey and Gerrit's hearts both started racing as they realized that the smoke was coming from their apartment complex and upon pulling into the lot, they watched in horror as flames took over their unit and their roof looked as if it were about to collapse in on itself with their cat Bella still inside. They watched as the firefighters bravely fought the flames and although, they managed to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading, it was unfortunately to late for my brother as the inside of their unit was turned to ash and rubble. The two of them have currently moved in with Lindsey’s aunt and uncle after having lived out of a hotel for 6 days, they now must commute more than an hour to work, having previously been only 15 minutes away. Fortunately, there is an upside to all this, as no one was injured and although she sustained damage to her lungs from the smoke and the heat had burned her paws their cat, Bella, survived. As they began entering the apartment after firefighters had deemed it safe to do so, they noticed that through all the damages, most of the items that were lost are things that fortunately can be replaced, such as furniture and hunting gear that has been acquired throughout the years. While this was heartbreaking to my brother, he saw the upside and was thankful that the items that could not be replaced, such as guns passed down from our grandfathers time in the Korean war and jewelry that belonged to our late grandmother had gone relatively unscathed and was able to be recovered.
This is where I am asking for your help in raising $2,000 for them both as my family and I are only able to do so much. I am a 20 year old college student and our parents have two other children to care for but I assure you we are doing all we can to help my brother and Lindsey get back on their feet. The money will be used for their cats medical bills and towards finding a new place for them to live. Fear not I am donating as well but now as to why you should donate, let me just explain the type of person my brother is. Gerrit is 25 and an alumni of the Beta Phi Chapter of the Theta Chi fraternity at the University of Nevada, Reno. He is the oldest of us 4 and throughout the years as we lost countless family members, he has always been the person we looked up to we still look up to him, I personally ask him for advice every week. He truly is our role model, and he does a damn good job at showing us the right path in life. Throughout my mother’s past battles with cancer and her current fight with melanoma, Gerrit calls us daily to check on us. He has and is always there when we need him. When our parents couldn’t afford certain gifts at Christmas, Gerrit took it upon himself to provide us with the best Christmas I have ever had and the bond we share together has made our family inseparable. He has extended his role in our life to be more than a brother, but a guardian and a leader to us and everyone else. His gratitude extends beyond family and friends, regardless of political views, race, gender, and ethnicity, it doesn’t matter, I know if the situation was reversed Gerrit would be there to help and he would do all he could and that is why I am asking you to do the same. All Gerrit has done in life is help others and its about time someone did the same for him, please join me in donating. Thank you- Liam
