On October 1, 2025, Georgia was admitted to the hospital with a ruptured appendix and sepsis. What should have initially been an easy surgical procedure was complicated by the fact she had gone to a different emergency department multiple times in the days prior. She was misdiagnosed with an umbilical hernia and partial bowel obstruction. She was sent home multiple times, even though she was in excruciating pain. By the time she was transferred to Fort Wayne, her appendix had been ruptured for 5 days. It was confirmed by her surgeon that the appendicitis had been present on her initial CT scan. They are still unsure how this was missed. Due to the delay in care, Georgia spent a week in the ICU. She suffered from a collapsed lung during the first surgery attempt and spent a couple days on a ventilator. On 10/03/2025 she was finally stable enough to undergo surgery to remove her appendix. Georgia has a long road ahead in her recovery, and we are hoping to help ease the burden of her everyday expenses, as well as medical bills from her current hospitalization.

Update 10/06/25 - Georgia has been moved to a step-down unit. She still has a long journey ahead of her with a minimum 2-4 week estimated inpatient stay. She will have a central line placed for antibiotics to fight the severe infection from her ruptured appendix.

Update 10/11/2025 - Georgia is slowly recovering, but there is still a long road ahead. She has at least 3 more weeks inpatient and then additional recovery time at home. She has completed IV antibiotics and her infection has improved.
