Help Georgia and her family Rebuild After a Devastating House Fire:
On July 13, 2025, our lives were turned upside down. A sudden house fire tore through our home, destroying nearly everything in its path. What once was a place of love, hard work, and community became unrecognizable within less than an hour of the fire.
This wasn’t just a house, it was a passion project. For four years, we poured our time, energy, and hard-earned money into slowly renovating the home ourselves. Every nail, every repaired wall, every fixture represented sacrifice and vision. Materials were still on-site the day of the fire, waiting to be used for the next round of repairs. And this wasn’t the first time we faced setbacks. The home had been broken into several times over the years, and we lost tools, equipment, and renovation supplies multiple times. Each time, we started again. We scraped together what we could, replaced what was taken, and kept going, determined to keep building for the future.
But this time is different. The loss is so total, so overwhelming, that we simply cannot recover alone. The fire not only erased years of labor and love, but it destroyed the foundation we had always managed to rebuild on. There is no way to move forward from this without the support of our community.
The damage is staggering. The fire gutted the home from within. Firefighters had to cut open the roof to contain the blaze. The wood framing, drywall, plumbing, electrical, insulation, flooring—all must be replaced. The kitchen and bathroom are drenched in smoke and flood damage due to the volume and pressure of the water used to extinguish the fire. And the home was uninsured. Every cent lost, from materials to memories, is a loss we must shoulder alone.
One of my family members is a self-employed mobile mechanic who ran his business from the home. The tools and equipment he used daily were stored in the very room where the fire began. With his entire workspace reduced to ash, he’s now unable to earn an income. This isn’t just emotionally devastating, it’s economically unsustainable.
He's is one of the kindest and hardest working people you’ll ever meet. He built his business from nothing, and even with little time or rest, he has always found ways to help others: offering free services to those in need, stopping to assist strangers on the side of the road even when he has passed the point of exhaustion from working tirelessly in the Texas heat. He shows up for others without hesitation.
Georgia is a grassroots organizer and community health worker in Houston. She’s dedicated her life to serving impacted communities: immigrants, youth, caregivers, and families in crisis. She’s an advocate who shows up for others every single day in whatever way she can, and now, she too needs help.
This fire didn’t just destroy a home. It took our stability, our safety, our sense of peace. But what it hasn’t taken is our hope.
We are asking for your support not just to rebuild the house but to rebuild our lives. Based on early assessments, the cost of rebuilding the home alone is conservatively estimated at over $150,000. This does not include the cost of replacing personal belongings, replacing business equipment, or the income lost while he’s unable to work. Additionally, the funds raised will help secure short-term housing, since the home is no longer livable and there is now cost of rent to consider on top of rebuilding.
This is a deeply humbling moment for us. We’ve always tried to find our way forward alone but this time, the only way forward is together.
Any amount you can give will help us take the next step, whether that’s rebuilding the structure, replacing tools, or surprise expenses that may surface as we navigate this transition. No donation is too small. Every contribution is a lifeline.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Thank you for reading, for sharing, and for standing beside us in this moment. Your love, support, and kindness are helping us find the strength to start again.
With love and endless gratitude,
Georgia and Family
