Help George the Persian Cat Get Lifesaving Care

George is my 3-year-old Persian rescue cat (came from a house where there was 30+ cats), I also rescued his sister Gretchen a month earlier. He has been a part of my family since December 2023. From the moment I brought him home, George has faced one health challenge after another. The day after I adopted him, I took him to the vet because he was dehydrated, not eating, and suffering from feline herpes that affected his eyes. After an expensive vet bill, we managed to get him stabilized, but the vet also discovered a level 2 heart murmur. At the time, I thought not to worry too much, as many pets and people live with murmurs.

Last year, during his annual checkup, the heart murmur had escalated to a level 5. We did an EKG, and George was started on Atenolol in hopes of slowing the progression. Unfortunately, at his most recent checkup, the murmur had progressed to severe. It was devastating news, especially since George is still so young and full of life. The current goal is to prevent a blood clot from forming, which is a serious risk for him now.

In late 2025, George began vomiting, and tests revealed kidney and bladder stones. He was started on Ursodiol, and we are waiting to see if this will help with the stones. Despite everything, George remains a happy kitty and shows no visible signs of pain. I have Lemonade insurance for him, but because his heart murmur was pre-existing, it does not cover his heart condition. Now, he needs ultrasounds every three months to monitor his heart and fluid buildup. The costs of vet visits, medications, and ongoing ultrasounds at Coastal Animal Hospital and VSH Emergency Vet are adding up quickly, and I am covering these expenses out-of-pocket.

With proper care and management, George could have another year or two with us, which would be the greatest gift. He shares his home with his litter mate, Gretchen, and their bond is truly special. Thank you for reading about little George, my sweet buddy. He has brought so much joy to my home and to everyone who visits. It feels like the special angels have the shortest time here. Any support to help give him more time with Gretchen would mean the world to us.
