HELP George (Dad) Recover from Hurricane Ian!!!

Donation protected
To everyone, my father George Mouzakis is someone who would do anything for anyone. He has served his country - he is a Vietnam Vet, the oldest of 12 children, had 3 children of his own (our sister Kristen died from complications lupus). He has worked hard all of his life. He discovered a quiet community of mobile homes in Riverbend of Naples back in 2005 where he moved to retire and just enjoy the simple, older mobile home, waterfront community where those who did not have significant funds could still enjoy the respite in this slice of heaven.

To his neighbors in Riverbend of Naples, he is a guy who talks to EVERYONE!!! Sometimes we joke about him shouting to every stranger and saying thank you and hello (he is hard of hearing from damage to his eardrums from Vietnam). Dad will also go out of his way to greet or thank someone who did a kind service for him. There are so many stories of George, Dad, Crazy Jorge (that is a joke) and Daddio that it can't be summed up into a quick paragraph.

Dad lost everything which has encompassed 78 years due to Hurricane Ian. He lost his home and the reality is slowly setting in. Not only has he lost his home, he has lost everything...a lifetime of photos, memories and all his possessions. His home along with all homes with the exception of a two story new home were all destroyed by flooding. The photo here shows the homes in his neighborhood covered to the roofs when Ian hit taken from the balcony of the only surviving home. Dad escaped his home as Hurricane Ian made impact swimming in neck high water dragging a plastic bucket with the few possessions he could swim out with in the raging storm.

George has worked hard his entire life. He has nothing left. We tell him his next chapter begins now, albeit maybe a little later in life than he planned. I drove down to Naples to help my Dad Thurs immediately following Hurricane Ian's Wed landfall when it was safe to travel. Driving down and witnessing the chaos and destruction was beyond what words describe.

I helped my Dad haul out whatever we could to salvage a small fraction of water soaked items, including clothes he could eventually find a place to wash with power. Power was restored 10 days later where he is temporarily staying. His place is destroyed and too old (82 trailer) to be insured. We collected his clothes, canned food and a few items. We put plywood and wood down so we could attempt to walk and climb over the flooded furniture to locate possessions since the floors were giving way to the ground underneath outside with open holes everywhere.

Despite all of this when I first saw my Dad is ALIVE! As soon as I finally got there, I took a picture and called it, Proof of Life, so relieved to see him battered emotionally but alive. We could not reach him for hours as Hurricane Ian made landfall. It wasn't until later pm he was able to find somewhere to notify us that he was alive. Shockingly his spirits never diminished. He donned his "survivor" buff and we got to work.

This fundraiser is to help our beloved father find a place to live 5th wheel or other and replace minimal items to live.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity and loving my father. He will also be there, as he always has been to help his fellow neighbors who have also suffered a great loss.
