My husband George suffered a stroke on November 18, 2025. While he was in the hospital, doctors discovered that one of his carotid arteries was 100% blocked and the other was 85% blocked. He underwent surgery on November 25 to clear the lesser blocked artery, and although the procedure was more extreme than expected, it was successfully completed. Immediately following surgery, George suffered two more strokes—one on each side of his brain—leaving him with severe cognitive deficits and no use of his right arm and leg. Since then, he has been in an intensive therapy hospital, but insurance only allowed him 22 days there. Now, he will need to stay in a skilled nursing and therapy facility for ongoing care, as it would be unsafe for him to come home in his current condition. When he does come home, he will need special equipment and help with in-home care.

Insurance has strict limits on how long George can stay in the facility, and after a certain number of days, there will be co-pays involved. This is especially hard for us, as we live on social security. When George is able to come home, he may need more care than I can manage alone, since it is just me here. We will also need to make modifications to our home, such as ramps and entryway changes, and get all the equipment that could help him. Our ultimate goal is to have George home again, but still receiving therapy to help him regain as much as possible. George has always loved making music—playing guitar, harmonica, and singing—and it would mean so much to see him do that again. Any support would be greatly appreciated and would help us on this difficult journey.
