Newest Update--

Friends, family and the wider community, we are reaching out again with an urgent call for help. Those of you have been keeping up with our dear friend, George and his recovery, know that back in June George simultaneously contracted multiple strains of bacterial pneumonia, a rare and deadly fungal infection caused by exposure to Rhizopus fungus, suffered kidney damage from an AKI and was put on oxygen while being hospitalized for two weeks after contracting Covid-19.

George’s recovery seemed to be on track and as he was preparing to start work again his health suddenly started to deteriorate again at the end of August. Because of George’s immuno-suppressed state multiple new problems have arisen including an infected cyst which needs to be surgically removed, a pulmonary embolism which he was re-hospitalized for in September, and a complete depletion of his ability to fight off common colds and flus keeping him bed-ridden and constantly sick.

All the help that has been received to date, covered temporary housing and expenses this summer and enabled George and his family to relocate to their partially remodeled home amid George’s illnesses, covered out of pocket medical expenses and transportation costs during the summer, and paid for living expenses for the family through September.

Our original fundraising effort presumed George would be back on his feet and able to work by September. Sadly, that is not the case. With the new developments and re-hospitalization just a few weeks ago, the reality is that George’s recovery will be a much longer haul.

With this in mind we have raised our fundraising goal to $45,000 in order to give George a chance to fully recover, to pay for new medical expenses and surgery, and continued support of his family as they work to provide him the nutrition and rest necessary to overcome these continued medical challenges. As a husband and father of 4, who supports his family through his home remodeling business, helping George cover the gaps in loss of income for several more months can make this possible.

The best and most direct help that can be provided to George and his family is through this Gofundme effort.

Every dollar counts and if George’s kind words, empathetic ear, amazing craftmanship and attention to details whether on the job, volunteering at church or school events and plays or his overall zest for life has ever touched you personally please consider showing that love back to him during his time of need.

Please consider sharing this Gofundme wherever you can, $5 from a stranger or $10 from a coworker can make a huge difference.

Please keep George in your prayers, in whatever way you can, sending love and kindness to him and his family, holding them up in your hearts, so George can soon return to leading and loving his family and community through his generous heart.

Let’s join together as a community, from near and far to provide the support this family needs for

George to heal and get back on his feet again.

With love and much gratitude,

George’s recovery Team

Dear friends and family,

A great man once said, "Dear Lord, thank you for this food, bless the hands that prepared it...and don't forget the Greeks." I always thought that was funny as a kid when George Koskinas would say that during big family prayers on Easter or Thanksgiving, when my family and I would spend many holiday hours together over the years. Well it is time for us to remember "The Greeks". George, Ellen, and their wonderful children Nikki, Teddy, Maria, and Jojo have been severely affected by George's heath crisis, and they need us to come around them as a community and lift them back to their feet. So here are the basics:

Over the last few months, George has been hospitalized 3 times for over a month's duration total. He has suffered from a cerebral spinal leak followed by double pneumonia and then his care team discovered that his lungs were also being torn up by an extremely aggressive fungal infection.   It has been difficult for his liver to tolerate the full dosage of fungal medication, but if the fungus continues to grow it can destroy the lungs. There is also some evidence of some permanent fibrosis in his lungs. At this point, George is required to remain on bed rest as much as possible. His immune system is basically wrecked, and if he is not able to recuperate, his body will potentially succumb to the fungus. As a result of his severely reduced lung capacity, his heart was also compromised. Shortly after this, he also suffered an acute kidney injury (AKI).

All of this has made the family business come to a screeching halt. Every day that George has been unable to work has set them back financially with medical bills, additional medical equipment costs, out of pocket prescription costs, additional travel expenses to and from doctors appointments and lab testing facilities, groceries, temporary housing, rent, utilities: gas, electric, water and refuse, car payments, car and house insurance etc. Because their income is dependent on George working as a contractor, which is very physically gruelling, it will take several months before he is able to fully return to work, if he can return at all.

This situation is made more difficult by the fact that their house in Plano is only half-finished, and cannot be finished until George is better. So their house in Plano is a constant source of stress, as they are only able to live in about 25% of the living space inside. It is very difficult for George to get the rest mentally and physically that he needs.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and once again let's not forget the GREEKS:)

God bless
