My name is George, and earlier this year, my life changed dramatically when I suffered a stroke in February 2025. After spending five months in the hospital, I lost my ability to walk and was issued a manual wheelchair through my insurance. Unfortunately, when I applied for an electric wheelchair, my insurance denied the request, leaving me with a heavy, bulky manual chair that is extremely difficult for me to use on my own.

Because of my weight—around 350 pounds—and weakness in my arms, I can only push myself about 15 yards before I have to stop and rest. Everyday tasks like going to the grocery store or even moving around my home have become exhausting and sometimes impossible. I am currently waiting for my disability benefits to be approved, but the process has taken a long time, and I have no income coming in right now.

An electric wheelchair would be life-changing for me. It would give me the mobility and independence I need to take care of myself, get out into the community, and regain some of the freedom I’ve lost.
