Hello friends,
I’m writing you in a vulnerable and challenging time.
In November 2025, I lost my income and my employer when The Source was suddenly closed. As many now know, a few weeks ago, the founder, my sponsor, co-facilitator, and good friend Jim took the decision to end his own life. In the process of grieving this deep personal loss, I am also trying to stabilize my own situation, which has been thrown into turmoil.
I have an urgent need, as my current visa ends March 18. I have no income and very limited savings after years of paying back debts and doing my best to stay afloat.
I’m asking for help in two phases.
Immediate Need: $2,000
To remain in Thailand legally, I need to:
- Travel briefly to Malaysia to secure a short-term visa
- Cover essential living expenses while I stabilize
This gives me breathing room to feel safe and stabilized here, as I grieve Jim’s passing, and figure out my strategy for moving forward from this tragedy.
*EDIT*
Long-Term Vision: Continuing my teaching in Thailand
There is a possible path to continue on with my offerings at The Source, but through my own business and renting the space for events.
I would either need to open my own company, or be hired at a new company that would agree to contractually arrange this with the landlord.
In order to make own company, I would need significant financial support to establish a new company under the US-Thailand Amity Treaty, to be able to resume working here with much greater flexibility, and under a new, clean, legal structure. The process takes upwards of 6 months until I could be able to work myself again, so I am understanding more that this is probably an unreasonable goal at this time but I'll share it none the less.
$25,000 in capital to fund the company
Approximately $10,000 in startup and staffing costs
I am also seeking new employment opportunities on the island and in Thailand. I would prefer of course to stay on Koh Phangan where I am most established and feel home. This option will also take some time. As the system here doesn't have the time to prepare this before my current visa expires, and I will AGAIN need to leave the country after this upcoming tourist visa, to make the business visa and work permit process which will take a further 1-2 months before I can legally work again here..hopefully by June or July this year. I am meeting and discussing with several possible employers in the coming weeks further details.
For this route I would need ...maybe $4,000 - 6,000 to pay for the visa process, travels, and living expenses.
As to the fluid nature of the situation being undecided, and who knows what may happen with the cost of things in the coming months, I have now an idea of passing forward the generosity I am receiving should we exceed the amount needed for this transition of mine. Once I am secure in the new arrangement, any excess funds I will pass on to others in need or to a in need cause at that time. As we reach that point in time I will gladly receive suggestions for individuals or charities in need.
Asking for help does not come easily to me. Many of you know disasters have lost me my job and put me in debt repeatedly since 2019. I do not have savings because of paying these debts back whenever I was able. If you feel called to support my immediate stability or help me continue my work either in Thailand, or hopefully someday again at The Source to be revived in the future, I am deeply grateful.
Even taking the time to give a token amount is a vote energetically for me to continue here. Please give what you can, and forward or share this post on. Any form of engagement is a powerful act of participation.
With love and humility,
George
