Hello! My name is George Gifford, and I am an Ordained Christian Chaplain living in Boise, Idaho.
I retired from a 40-year Information Technology career effective December 31, 2024, and I am now living my passion to see men changed and transformed by our Lord Jesus Christ.
I have one final paper to submit in order to finally receive my BA of Divinity Degree (Ministry and Theology), and I am joyous to use what I've learned to point others to the Savior.
I spend considerable time each week volunteering at the Idaho State Correctional Center (ISCC), the Idaho State Correctional Institution (ISCI), and the Idaho Maximum Security Institution (IMSI).
My chaplain mentor, Howard, and I minister to the men one-on-one as requested, and we also "walk the block" at the maximum security prison (IMSI) and minister to the men who want to talk with us, even on death row.
In addition to serving as the recruiting coordinator with the Boise, Idaho Advisory Council of KAIROS Prison Ministry International, I co-teach classes at ISCI and ISCC under the Courage For Life and the Prisoners For Christ ministries. Both of these ministries fully fund the materials and training needed for each class.
A spot for another class opened up at the correctional center (ISCC) and I was approved to teach a new class offered by another ministry that has greatly impacted me and my walk with Christ: the Freedom In Christ Course offered by Freedom In Christ Ministries (FICM https://freedominchrist.org/ You can view the course content at https://www.ficm.org.uk/discipleship-course ).
The only caveat to this is that the course is not funded by FICM; however, they have graciously given me a permanent 40% discount on all material orders in addition to donating 20 participant guides and 20 devotionals for my first class.
This helps tremendously; however, each class participant needs to use 8 books. So, for a class of 15 participants, that would be 120 books.
We started teaching our first Freedom In Christ Course at ISCC on Monday, June 23rd, 2025, with 17 inmates having signed up for the class (I have 4 other men assisting me with the class).
I funded the purchase of all the materials for this class myself, and I was very happy to have been able to do that; however, I have exhausted my funds going forward for additional classes.
We were just approved to teach the Freedom In Christ course at the Correctional Institution (ISCI) and the Maximum Security Institution (IMSI), so we need materials for both classes.
We do plan on using the majority of the class books as loaner books so that we can use them in successive classes, but we need to build up our cache of books in order to do that.
Each man will be given 2 books once they complete the course, so those 2 books will not be loaner books and will need to be replaced each class.
In addition to the FIC Course, I have been presented with the opportunity to do a church service each week at the Maximum Security prison, which I would very much love to do. I would be taking my guitar and leading the men in worship, so I need a license from Christian Copyright Licensing International in order to use songs for that.
Whew! I know that was a bit much, but I just didn't know how to express it any other way.
I would be significantly blessed and more than appreciative if you could contribute to this ministry, and I would be more than happy to produce receipts for all material and license purchases!
God Bless!
George Gifford, Chaplain
