Please Help Us Save Geoffrey ❤️
Our beloved Geoffrey urgently needs lifesaving scans and surgery after vets discovered a fast-growing lump on his skull, suspected to be a multilobular tumour of bone (MTB).
We need your help to raise £5,000 to cover:
• CT scan / X-rays
• A biopsy
• Potential tumour/lump removal surgery
• Recovery stays at the vets
• Medication and pain relief
Without these initial tests, which cost £1600 alone, we cannot move forward. Right now, he is on pain relief while we wait and everyday matters.
Who is our beautiful boy Geoffrey?
Geoffrey (or 'Reffers' as the kids call him) is our 11-year-old rescued greyhound with the kindest brown eyes you’ve ever seen.
We met him when he was just 3 years old and already retired from racing due to a serious injury, but his gentle soul wasn’t coping well in the kennels and he was becoming more and more anxious. From the very moment we met him (armed with sausages from the butcher, his favourite), we knew he was coming home with us.
We joke he is our first baby.
Geoffrey has been there through our hardest days. He made our daughter laugh for the first time when he licked her head. When she took her first steps, it was him she walked to for a cuddle. Our 3 year old son calls him 'his best friend in the whole world',
After a difficult start in life, all we have ever wanted is to give him love, comfort, and safety.
Why do we need your help?
A few weeks ago, we noticed a lump on his head and we took him to the vets, who advised we needed to monitor him, the hope was it was a knock and would soon disappear, instead, it has grown in size and has become very painful.
The vet believes it is likely a multilobular tumour of bone, which is usually a slow growing but serious skull tumour. The only way to confirm and treat it is through urgent scans and a biopsy, followed by surgery if required (and possible).
Like many families, we are financially stretched and due to Geoffrey’s medical history before we adopted him, we were unable to obtain full insurance. Sadly, the limited cover we have does not include this condition.
We never imagined we would have to ask for help like this, but we do not have the money to be able to proceed with the treatment Geoffrey needs, but we know he deserves every chance he can get to have a few more happy years on the couch with the kids.
How You Can Help
If you can spare:
• £5: It will make a big difference to us and helps us continue with his pain medication
• £10: Brings Geoffrey closer to his scan
• £20: Helps us with his scan and future treatment
• Anything at all: We are deeply grateful and thankful for anything you can spare.
If you are unable to donate, all we ask is if you can please share his story.
Every share gives Geoffrey a fighting chance, as we can’t watch our beautiful boy suffer when there may still be hope.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for reading, supporting, and caring about Geoffrey.
Any of your kind donations remaining after we have cared for Geoffrey, will be donated to the Greyhound trust.
** Please note: I originally included ‘Skull reconstruction (if required)’ in the list of reasons we were looking for donations, as when I wrote it, i was shocked and upset, and like many pet owners, I was thinking I will do anything to give Geoffrey more time.
But, after a lot of talking, and crying, we’re not sure we would subject Geoffrey to this procedure.
However, we do need to wait for the results of the Xray and biopsy to know what we are dealing with, and what the options are.
Whilst we will always take on board the vet’s advice, our primary concern is Geoffrey’s wellbeing and quality of life, we do not want him to suffer in any way.
But for clarity , and not wanting to just remove it from the list in case anyone thought we were hiding anything, I wanted to add a note to explain what I did, and our thoughts behind it.
