Help Gentry & Baby Recover After a Series of Devastating Events
Hey everyone! My name is Rachel. I have been a friend of Gentry's for 20 years.
Gentry and Adrian welcomed their son, Elijah, on April 17, 2025. What should have been the most joyful time in their lives quickly turned into a series of overwhelming, expensive, and heartbreaking events.
Elijah was born not breathing and diagnosed with moderate HIE (hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy). He was life-flighted to the NICU at McKay-Dee Hospital, where he spent his first week of life. He came home on oxygen and requires ongoing care for the foreseeable future. His medical bills have already reached over $96,000. Thankfully, their max out of pocket on their insurance plan is $8,000, which is the portion they need to come up with.
While returning home from visiting Elijah in the NICU just two days after he was born, Gentry and Adrian discovered their condo had flooded - not due to anything they did, but because of a faulty water softener from the unit above them. The first flood caused over $9,000 in damage, including the entire electrical panel and a transformer in their HVAC system.
Just four weeks later, it flooded again, from the same unit, adding another $7,000 in damages at least (they are still in the mitigation process). Then, while driving with Elijah, they hit a deer - damaging their new car so badly that it is not drivable.
Now, their insurance (State Farm) is threatening to drop them after three back-to-back claims—none of which were their fault, after 20+ years of no claims. To move forward, Gentry and Adrian must pay thousands upfront for home repairs before insurance can even consider helping.
Gentry is just 7 weeks postpartum and still on maternity leave, recovering while managing insurance claims, home repairs, and the needs of a fragile newborn and his appointments. Adrian is working and attending school full-time. They’re doing everything they can to keep afloat but the but they’re underwater.
If you’re able to help in any way, every bit makes a difference. They know times are tough for everyone right now and deeply appreciate any support, whether it’s through donation or simply sending love.
Since GoFundMe takes a percentage, you also can donate through Venmo (@GenchyMcFly) or America First (account 6874697).
Thank you all so much!
