Help Genesis Continue Her Education
Hi Everyone, my name is Joan Radigan, I have never done a Go Fund Me before, yet, I am writing on behalf of a very talented young woman, named Genesis Taina Luciano. Genesis attends Alfred University, in Alfred, NY. Genesis is a first generation Puerto Rican American college student from Harlem, NY. She comes from a low-income family that believes getting a college degree is of utmost importance. Her father is disabled and her mother is the sole provider for the family. Her mother works hard so she can make tuition payments via a payment plan.
This past year due to a series of unfortunate events, in midst of a pandemic, Genesis' FAFSA never was able to be submitted. After over a year of trying to rectify the situation the school calculated how much FAFSA would have given in aid and Genesis now owes $10,000 dollars in tuition and fees for last year. She found this out on August 6, 2021. Her mother can pay $5,000 of the bill. Genesis still owes another $5,000. School begins on August 22nd. She cannot register for classes and receive her final financial package for this year until this bill is paid.
This has been a year long endeavor for Genesis and her family. She tried throughout the year to rectify the situation, which turned out to be an issue with the parent signature page. She worked with advisors, FAFSA, and the University's Financial Aid Office. Every time Genesis was told the problem was solved, it wasn't. In July, Genesis found out she owed $33,000 in tuition and fees! Genesis worked with faculty members and University administrators to tell her story of tribulation and was able to reduce the fee to $10,000. We still need $5,000 to send her back to school.
If there is anyway you can help Genesis raise the $5,000 it would be greatly appreciate. Let's get Genesis back to school!
