Hi! My name is Genesis Kuzhel! I'm a Physician (M.D) and seven years ago, I escaped Venezuela seeking safety, leaving behind everything I knew and loved. It wasn’t easy, but I was determined to build a new life.

Here in the U.S. and more specifically, Key West, FL, I found more than just a place to live, I found family, a home, and a community that welcomed me with open arms and gave me hope.

That sense of belonging inspired me to pursue medicine. I wanted to give back, to be there for the people who were there for me. I worked nonstop, studying, sacrificing, and working multiple jobs to support my family in Venezuela, our needs here and the path towards this goal!.

After years of hard work and sleepless nights, I achieved my dream: I became a physician in the U.S.

Now I am about to begin my Family Medicine residency in July 2026, the final 3 year step before I return as a fully licensed doctor to serve the community that changed my life forever.

But here’s my challenge: resident physicians earn very low salaries for 80-100 hour work weeks, and I need to relocate in just 2 months. Even working full time and pulling doubles as a server, moving costs are something I simply cannot cover right now. I refuse to let this final hurdle stop me.
