Hi everyone, this is Julie, and I’m putting this together on behalf of Gene’s family. With a heavy heart, I am sharing something no family ever wants to face. Our dear friend Gene is in the fight of her life. Her cancer has returned, and this battle is more intense than anything she has faced before. There’s never a “right” time to talk about the big C, and finding the words has been nearly impossible for her family—so I’m doing my best to speak for them with love and honesty.
Gene was recently diagnosed with a metastatic malignant neoplasm—a tumor that has now spread aggressively to her right chest area after being contained on the left side for the past 20 years. Over those two decades, Gene has survived multiple surgeries and fought every challenge with incredible strength. But now, this cancer has come back more aggressive than ever.
Through all of this, her husband Stephen has been her rock—the kind of person who shows up for everyone without a single question asked. He has always been the first to help others in their time of need, and now they are the ones who need support more than ever.
Gene must begin aggressive weekly chemotherapy immediately. The most devastating part—outside of the cancer itself—is that each treatment costs $4,000 out of pocket. It’s heartbreaking that in the world we live in, lifesaving treatment can be so financially impossible. No one should have to choose between fighting for their life and affording the care they need.
