Help Gem beat her infertility battle

Donation protected
So a little about how I find myself here. Gem seen in the photo is my best friend and she has been on a tough road regarding an Endometriosis diagnosis and now infertility.

What is endometriosis some may ask? Well in a nut shell…
Endometriosis (en-doe-me-tree-O-sis) is an often painful disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus — the endometrium — grows outside your uterus. Endometriosis most commonly involves your ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining your pelvis. Unfortunately for Gem it has involved all of thee above and her bowel and bladder.

Gem got officially diagnosed with stage 4 Deep infiltrating endometriosis in May 2018 after a long battle of being told its just ‘a bad period’ since she was 16. She then awaited surgery to try and save and free her reproductive organs, bowel and bladder. While she waited for this she did everything in her power to prepare her body and mind for what was to come including losing a whopping FOUR STONE to give her body the best chance for a quick recovery.

She had her major gynae surgery in November 2019 and had a total of Seven procedures including a Cystectomy, rectal excision and dissection and destruction of endometriosis. It was a great success as she had been prepared to come out loosing her left ovary and tube and the likely hood of needing a colonoscopy bag but her amazing surgeon saved it all.

Since the operation Gem has always been a tower of strength and positivity never giving up but unfortunately it just hasn’t happened naturally, so in February of this year she decided to pay for a Fertility assessment. Ever the optimist she went in positive and had already run through scenarios in her head. Although the news wasn’t what she hoped for she still came out with the attitude that she deserves this chance and wants to do everything she possibly can.

She was told that her egg count was now of a 40 – 45 year old and that the endometriosis had severely damaged her ovaries and fallopian tubes leaving deep scar tissue. She was told that she will need full IVF but is still within a chance of fulfilling her dream. She may need numerous rounds of IVF (POSITIVE THINKING only one)

Now for the YUCKY BIT (financial complications)

Even though Endometriosis is a wide spread medical condition it isn’t recognised or eligible for funding with regards to it causing infertility.

Each cycle for gem will cost within the region of around: £7,250
£1600 – Medication
£850 – Sperm donation
£4800 – IVF cycle
There are also different finance deals   i.e pay £15000 and have 2 years unlimited of IVF with the additional cost of the donation and medication for each cycle at £2450.

Any amount large or small would be another step towards helping my wonderful friend pursue her only real job in life to become a mummy.
Anyone that knows Gem knows what a wonderfully caring, selfless beautiful soul she is. She has spent many years caring for and nurturing hundreds of children helping them develop and meet milestones giving lots of advice and support to parents and her friends and I know everyone would love to see this happen for her.
After speaking to her and her reluctantly giving me permission to set this up on her behalf ( she hates asking for help and being a nuisance) she has said that she wants to record and document every step of her journey using an Instagram profile that she has created called @one_egg_or_two You will be able to rely on her for the honest raw truth with some bridget jones moments chucked in for good measure and a lot of smiles and laughs too. Please give it a follow and lets do this! https://https://www.instagram.com/s/aGlnaGxpZ2h0OjE3ODkzODQyNzEyODQ1MTk0?igshid=1roemriknm32g&story_media_id=2514978305542010430_46150922964
