Hi, my name is Gee Gee, and I’m a single mom to my 7-year-old son, Brayden. Together, we’re starting a Community Food & Family Support Drive to help families who are struggling to afford groceries during the government shutdown.

Over the years, I’ve known what it feels like to wonder how you’ll make ends meet. This shutdown has left many parents scared and unsure of how they’ll feed their kids or keep their homes running. For some, food stamps and other benefits have stopped. For others, work hours have been cut, and groceries just keep getting more expensive. It breaks my heart to know there are children going to bed hungry, parents crying behind closed doors, and families doing their best to survive with so little support.

That is why this November, Brayden and I are going door-to-door collecting canned foods, pantry items, and small donations to share with local families who need them most.

Our goal is to raise $3,000, which will allow us to bless 30 families with $100 each for groceries. The funds will go on gift cards for groceries or essential items, which will be electronically emailed to recipients. Beneficiaries will sign up through a Google doc form, which will then be randomly selected to send gift cards to. Every dollar raised will go directly to helping a family in need—no middlemen, no organizations taking a cut, just one mom and her son doing what we can to lift others up.
