Glasgow has become a very special place for me, not only because I study here, but because of the people who welcomed and supported me when I first arrived.

I know what it feels like to leave Gaza and arrive here to start again. I also know how much the support I received from people in Scotland meant to me during those first days. Their kindness made a difficult new beginning feel a little easier, and I will never forget that.

Now, another group of Palestinian students is expected to be evacuated from Gaza to Glasgow to continue their studies.

They are not simply coming to start university. They are coming to rebuild their lives from almost nothing. After losing their belongings during the war, and with restrictions preventing them from bringing possessions with them during the evacuation, they are expected to arrive in Glasgow with only the clothes they are wearing.

Just imagine arriving in a new country to begin university without even the basic things you need for your first night. Where would you start? Who would you turn to?

Today, we have the chance to be that support for them.

We currently expect around 9 students, and our goal is to provide around £250 of essential support per student, including food, gift cards, clothing and other immediate necessities to make their first days in Glasgow a little easier.

The final number may change. If fewer or more students arrive, the funds will be shared fairly among the students we are supporting.

Scotland was there for me when I arrived. Today, it is our chance to be there for them.

Your donation today will not support just one student. Together, we can help an entire group of students take their first steps towards rebuilding their lives.

So, can we do for them what Scotland once did for me? Let’s show them the kindness I experienced when I arrived. Let’s show them how much Scotland stands with Palestine, and make sure that when they arrive in Glasgow, they know they are not alone. ❤️
