Help Gaza family find safety in Serbia
Spende geschützt
Our friend Ali, a doctor from Gaza who has lived and worked in Serbia for a decade, has recently been able to bring 13 of his family members from Gaza to Belgrade. The group includes five children aged 2 to 10, their parents, and Ali’s own parents, aged 70 and 73.
We are delighted that Ali has been able to save his family from Israel's brutal war on Gaza, and bring them to a place of peace and safety. There have been a number of costs to achieve this miracle, which we would like to cover to give the family a stable, easy start to their new life in Europe.
**UPDATE** after just four days, we're close to reaching our initial goal - so we've updated our funding target! All the funds will go directly to Ali's family as they start their new life here in Serbia. Please keep giving and sharing - we couldn't be more thankful!
In particular, we would like to raise:
- €2400 for travel comprising 12x flight tickets from Cairo to Belgrade at €200 each (£2070)
- €1200 to support the family with initial rental costs (£1080)
- €200 for school supplies for the children (£175)
- €200 for warm clothes (£175)
Rescuing the family from Gaza and bringing them to Europe was an extremely challenging and gruelling process for everyone involved, especially the children.
Ali says: “Even those people who survive the bombing in Gaza will die from disease and hunger. There is no food. Israel targeted my parents’ house, and we lost contact with the whole family for many hours: I didn’t have even one per cent hope they were alive. After, they were dug out of the rubble. I asked to speak to each one of them, just to hear their voices.
"Even after that, my relatives had to change their location more than fifteen times. Every time they went somewhere new, the tanks got close or there was carpet bombing. The final Doctors Without Borders shelter where my parents were staying in the south was hit by a shell, forcing them to leave once again. My parents already suffer from multiple health conditions including a stroke, cardiovascular issues and diabetes.
“I hope my family can now rebuild a new life in Serbia. they are still suffering from flashbacks, which come at night and prevent them from sleeping. They are not sure how they’re going to build a new life from zero, find work, and learn a new language: but now the important thing is that they can settle here, rest, and forget what they saw.”
The family were finally able to leave Gaza in two groups, though some relatives were denied exit and remain in the war-zone, separating parents from their children. The final group left Gaza on day 100 of Israel’s invasion, which has killed over 24,000 people including over 10,000 children to date.

Dragi prijatelji,
